WHAT IS HULA
Hula is more than a dance from the Hawaiian Islands, it is history, culture, storytelling and a means of expression that can touch your soul.
Dancing Hula involves isolation of the upper and lower body, and hand movements that represent aspects of life, such as waves, a breeze, the sun, or feelings and emotions. Foot and hip movements are similar in form to other styles of dance, but the mixture of movements between the lower and upper body demands balance, stamina and coordination of body and mind.
You are never too old to dance, so don’t let age stop you! Hula is for men and women, of all shapes and sizes, so unlike many forms of dance, hula looks past the body into the soul. In the Hawiian community, it is common to see family and friends dance Hula together, at home and at get-togethers that are both formal and informal. Performance groups, of both men and women, dance at community events, festivals, churches, luaus and in competitions worldwide.
Take the journey into learning Hula, for both your body and mind!
